Flee | Fuir

Flee was made in the autumn of 2021 while scouting locations in Canada for my debut feature film, KRYPTIC. I was both terrified and excited to embark on my first film, when a three-day rainstorm forced me to take shelter in Hope, one of my favourite places in Canada. Nestled in the mountains at the junction of three highways, Hope is full of cheerfully bleak motels, gas stations, truck stops and fast-food diners. I've always found something comforting in the town's transient nature, its friendly people and its distinctly 1980s supernatural-film atmosphere. Like Hope itself, these photographs find something strange and quietly comforting in the everyday. They also hold a memory of an extraordinary moment in my life.
